2013 Encore Receives IIHS, NHTSA Safety Accolades

Needless to say we were pretty excited last week  when we found out that our newest model in the showroom, the 2013 Buick Encore, received IIHS top safety pick designation.  That is great news for the small luxury crossover but what is even better news for Buick is that now all five of their models share this distinction as an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety 2013 Top Safety Pick. The Encore with all-wheel drive also received a 5-star Overall Vehicle Score for safety from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.

Buick is one of just a few brands with a full line of 2013 Top Safety Picks. The Verano, Regal, LaCrosse and Enclave all have a NHTSA 5-star overall rating.

The IIHS tests vehicles to determine occupant protection in front, side, and rollover crashes, and specifically tests seats and head restraints for neck protection in rear impact crashes. To earn a 2013 Top Safety Pick designation, a vehicle must be rated “good” in all four tests.

NHTSA tests for its 5-star safety ratings program include front, side and rollover testing, along with a side pole test simulating a 20-mph side-impact crash into a 10-inch-diameter pole or tree at a 75-degree angle just behind the A-pillar on the driver’s side.

The Encore has 10 standard air bags, a standard Rear Vision Camera and the security of OnStar – a combination unmatched by any competitor. In a rollover crash, sensors in the vehicle deploy standard head curtain air bags prior to impact and leave them inflated for an extended period.

Encore’s advanced body structure is comprised of more than 60 percent high-strength steel that provides a protective safety cage around occupants. Other safety measures include standard four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, panic brake override, StabiliTrak electronic stability control, and a collapsible pedal system that reduces the risk of leg injury.

Available active safety features for the 2013 Encore include Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning, a pair of technologies that use a single forward-looking camera to read traffic patterns and lane markers on the road ahead. Visual warnings and audible tones alert the driver to unsignalled lane changes or a slowed vehicle.

It is quite obvious that Buick has not only made a commitment to the production of some beautiful new vehicles but they have also made a huge commitment to safety in their entire lineup.

Welcome Spring

If you live anywhere near Boyle Buick GMC Truck here in Abingdon, Maryland, we are not sure that anyone deserves Spring more than we do.  It’s been a long, cold winter but temperatures are up and it’s time to celebrate Spring.

Our flower beds and lawns have been dormant but our cars have certainly not.  Spring is a great time to have a few things checked on your car. Whether your vehicle has experienced damage from the weathered roads or maybe you need to prepare for the warm weather that is on its way, we have a few tips to make sure your vehicle is running at its best:

  • Tire Condition, Pressure and Alignment – If tires have been inflated in response to the cold weather, they definitely need to be checked now to make sure they are not overinflated. It’s a good time to check the tire condition in general as well as the alignment which could have suffered from potholes.
  • Fluids – The change in season is always a great time to have your fluids checked and make sure you are up to date on your oil change.
  • Lights – Make sure all the lights in the vehicle are operable.
  • Cooling System and Air Conditioning – With the really warm weather on it’s way, be sure the cooling system and air conditioning are operating BEFORE it really heats up.
  • Wiper Blades – You know what they say about April Showers.  Be sure that your wiper blades, which may have taken a beating over he winter, are in good condition for the season’s rain.
  • Wash and Wax – Your car takes a beating in the winter time with the salt on the roads and the harsh weather in general.  Schedule your wash and wax today.

And to celebrate Spring, we are offering a $100 or a $50 mail-in rebate (Certified Service Visa Debit Card) with the purchase and installation of four select tires now through May 31st.  Ask a service consultant for the details, or visit our service department online

The All-New 2013 Buick Encore Is Here!

I’m not sure we have been this excited about a new model’s arrival since maybe the ever popular, Buick Rendezvous?  We were expecting the first sightings of the Encore to be at the Auto Show in February so you can imagine how excited we were to see three new Encore’s come off the truck this past Thursday!

Expected to compete with the Volkswagen Tiguan, BMW X1, Nissan Juke and Mini Countryman, the Encore gives the Buick brand five vehicles in its portfolio.  It is powered by a 1.4L ECOTEC 138-hp turbocharged engine with variable valve timing and it offers an EPA-estimated 25 mpg city, 33 mpg highway and a combined EPA-estimated fuel economy of 28 mpg with a standard 6-speed automatic transmission.

The Encore ranges in price from $24,950 for the basic model to $28,840 for the premium package.   Considered a small crossover, the Encore still has plenty of storage space; fold-flat seats and 48.4 cubic feet of cargo space.

The Encore is equipped with the Buick IntelliLink which is a voice-activated, high-definition system that connects your smartphone, your Pandora and SiriusXM stations, and Stitcher SmartRadio, all through the 7-inch full-color touch screen.  There is also a USB port and  Bluetooth connectivity. Technology is definitely the name of the game with the Encore, other available features include:

· Remote Start

· Rainsense Wipers

· Rearview Camera system

· Memory Seats & Mirrors

· Front Park Assist

· Rear Park Assist

And Encore takes safety to a whole new level with 10 air bags standard and available features such as Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning and all-wheel drive. All of this combined with great Buick standards like StabiliTrak and OnStar, give Encore a comprehensive safety story.

The All New 2013 Buick Enclave

The Buick Enclave is the top-selling three-row luxury crossover SUV in the U.S. market so one would think, how can the best get better but it has!  The 2013 Buick Enclave has been updated with new styling, more standard equipment, added safety technologies and IntelliLink connectivity.   2013 Buick Enclave

On the exterior of the new Enclave, you will notice new LED daytime running lamps and LED-accented taillights which add to the design and technology.  Inside, the new ambient interior lighting adds a cool Ice Blue glow to the cabin.

Dual-flow dampers at the front of the vehicle are among the Enclave’s chassis refinement advancements. These new components provide a smoother ride and improved handling by controlling suspension dampening across a broader range of driving conditions.

The 2013 Enclave offers three different equipment groups but they all come standard with a seven-inch Color Touch radio with IntelliLink, high-intensity discharge headlamps, Rear Parking Assist, a Rear Vision Camera, remote start, a power liftgate and other luxury features. Every 2013 model also comes standard with the industry’s first front-center air bag, which is designed to protect drivers and front passengers in far-side impact crashes.

Enclave offers seven or eight passenger seating choices with no added cost for either. Additional options vary among equipment groups, but all Enclave models can be equipped with all-wheel drive, navigation, and a trailering package.

“The original Enclave was a catalyst for the Buick, defining the brand’s high standards of design and refinement,” said Tony DiSalle, vice president of Buick Marketing. “The new 2013 model takes another step forward with a bolder look and advanced technologies.”
